The Autism in Schools Project commissioned by NHS England is intended to enable schools across Trafford to better support pupils with autism (with/our without diagnosis) and/or social communication in educational settings.
As part of the project, TPF will provide the coordination and facilitation of parent carer peer groups within each participating school and within these sessions we will provide an opportunity for parent carers to find support, information and advice, and to receive the exact same training that whole school staff will be getting too. It's a fabulous opportunity for parent carers to get an insight into the neurodivergent world and a great conversation starter with your child or young persons SENCO, Teacher or Teaching Assistant.
This ‘so what’ session is a follow on from the first parent carer session that we held in December. It will be a chance to hear from school regarding the feedback they have had from parent carers, as well as a chance to get to know each other better, share experiences and ask questions. All are welcome, whether you attended session 1 or not.
As a part of the Project we will provide a training course for parent carers, the modules used for this training are broken up into five sections and we will cover a module at a time and we will also try to ensure that parent carer training is given around the same time as the whole school:-
Module 1 - Understanding Autism
Module 2 - Enabling Environments
Module 3 - Understanding barriers to learning and learning styles
Module 4 - Anxiety
Module 5 - Distressing Behaviours
By booking on through Eventbrite you are giving TPF permission to contact you regarding future Autism in Schools information and events.
By booking on through Eventbrite you are giving TPF permission to take and use photographs for the purpose of the Autism in Schools project. Please let us know at the sessions if you do not give permission and we will make a note of your request.
We are unable to provide activities for children or babies during these sessions. Whilst we understand parent carers may have to bring children/babies with them and they are welcome, we do need to make you aware that there isn't any appropriate activities for them.
